WINONA FRECKLES - A DEAF GREAT DANE IS SAVED
Ginger Luke wrote:
I went to an adoption fair in Issaquah and the place was jammed packed
with all kinds of people eager to adopt a dog. By the end of the day, there was only one big sad looking dog left and I could see that no one wanted her.
The shelter director walked over to me and said: I hear you are the
Death Row Dog Lady and I would like to offer you Winona Freckles. She told me that if I didn't take her in my car, she was going to be put down the next day because they considered her unadoptable as she is deaf, big and totally out of control.
I took one look at Winona and she took one look at me and all of a sudden we made a pact together, we would find a way!
I took her home; she had three homes that did not work out and then fianlly a wonderful lady named Julie stepped up to the plate and offered her a forever home.
We were lucky to get Winona to an excellent trainer who used a remote collar and sign language for training. Winona and Julie were now able to communicate very well together.
Winona is now living right on the beach and she is living a dream!
Thank you Julie for all your love and patience!
Below is email from Julie.
Hi Ginger.
Winona Freckles came to us on April 7, 2006 and she is the joy
Of my life! With the tremendous contribution of Cascade K9, patience, lots of love, and time, Winona has calmed down, and is a very happy, well adjusted young lady! She is company (and a pest) to our senior black Labrador, my new walking partner, a great watchdog, (even though she is DEAF), and a wonderful new family member!
Because she is deaf, her other senses are very fine tuned, and she is observant of ANY activity wherever she is, including people walking by the house, or coming down the stairs to our house; she never ceases to surprise us! We love her dearly!
